SOUNDPEATS Air5 Pro+

SOUNDPEATS Air5 Pro+

Today we're having a look at yet another pair of earbuds from Soundpeats, namely the Air5 Pro+. You might remember that we tested the Air5 Pro late fall 2025 and you are completely correct, today we're having a look at the upgraded + (plus) version.

This latest flagship of Soundpeats are very similar but yet quite different from the previous version. Both are of course Tws (True Wireless Stereo) earbuds and they look more or less the same. The prominent feature of the Air5 Pro+ is the inclusion of Mems technology and you might wonder, what is that?

From the Soundpeats website, they say the following;

"Unlike traditional designs, the Mems driver features a monolithic structure that ensures exceptional stability. Its ultra-light diaphragm moves with extreme precision, delivering outstanding transient response and minimal distortion. This rapid attack and decay allow for crystal-clear treble reproduction and finely detailed spatial expression. Manufactured through semiconductor processes, Mems drivers maintain highly consistent performance between left and right channels, creating a precisely focused sound image and an expansive soundstage beyond what conventional drivers can achieve."

Normal speakers move physically up and down, side to side, diagonally - any possible way to produce sound and it all depends on the way that the capsule around is designed. This is both good and bad of course, well designed capsules or speaker enclosures, if you want to take it up to full size, can affect the speaker elements in all sorts of ways. If the speaker enclosure is poorly designed it can affect the speaker element in a way that it moves uneven for example and that causes distortion. If the enclosure is designed badly in another way it can make the soundwaves bouncing back onto the speaker element in a way that it cancels out sound. Without going into too much details, a poorly designed capsule or enclosure can make any speaker element perform bad, really bad.

With Mems technology you get much more precise, extreme precision, movement which is not as affected or minimally affected by the capsule or enclosure. Furthermore, Mems speakers can be made extremely small compared to speaker elements, maintaining the audio quality. As it is manufactured through a semiconductor process, this means that they are extremely precisely made - just like a computer/Ic chip. We are talking nanometer precision, instead of millimeter precision. In one millimeter you have 1 000 000 nanometers, one million.

The Soundpeats Air5 Pro+ comes in a white box with details on the back. We can for example see that there is a Snapdragon sound processor inside the earbuds which can handle hi resolution wiress audio and Ldac. These earbuds also have regular 10mm dynamic driver units, speakers if you will, along the new Xmems micro speakers. Together with a second generation amplifier and 35mAh batteries in each ear bud, this sounds like a powerful combo. The charging case also comes with its own battery, like previous models, featuring a 520mAh battery with up to 30 hours of playtime in total.

Inside the box we find the charging case nicely packaged with scratch protection. Unboxing it shows a stylish charging case with the USB-C port and a reset button on the bottom, the Soundpeats logo on the front in gold/rose gold. As usual we find the ear buds inside with its accompanying protective stickers to prevent charging during shipping. These ear buds feature, just like the previous Air5 Pro model, rubber/silicone ear tips which can easily be removed and changed into another size or just to get new ones on when you wear the old ones out. These are available from everywhere in different sizes, shapes and colors, so you are not stuck with just the Soundpeats ear tips. You also get two other sizes in the box if the ones fitted from the factory is not the correct size for you.

In the manual box we find a user guide, stickers, a flyer for the PeatsAudio app - available both for Android and iOS, as well as the two extra sizes of ear tips and a short charging cable.

If we compare the Air5 Pro+ to the previous model, the Air5 Pro we can see that the box has grown a bit. The backside still shows the necessary information, but in a slightly better way - in my opinion.

The ear buds themselves are very similar, the front ones are the Air 5 Pro+ and the ones in the back is the Air5 Pro. Visually there is only a color difference. Size is as far as I can tell exactly the same.

Wearing the new Air5 Pro+ compared to the Air5 Pro should be no difference at all.

So, are there any differences between the new + version and the older version?

During my testing I can clearly hear a difference in the treble registers. The Air5 Pro wasn't bad in any way, but the Air5 Pro+ offers a much more clear and sharp audio image, without being too sharp of course, it feels very nicely balanced. It is easier to hear voice and higher tones, the audio is more separated. While it wasn't bad with the Air5 Pro - I still recommend them, especially for the performance for the price - but the audio is more mashed together (the high and low). The new Air5 Pro+ separates the audio channels a little more and gives a much crisp sound both for the treble and the bass. The middle registers smoothly flows together, without being mashed together of course.

I really like the audio profile of the Air5 Pro, but the Mems speaker elements does something extra and I certainly like it. It is not too much, it is not over the top different, it is pleasent and comfortable, it is very usable and enjoyable. I think the audio profile is very enjoyable and there is no problem for me to use these ear buds for hours. I could actually feel that after some time the previous version, the Air5 Pro could be slightly exhausting - while still being really good.

This can also be thanks to the ANC, Active Noise Cancelling, feature which in my opinion sounds much better than on the Air5 Pro. There must be an upgrade either in the firmware or perhaps different microphones that make the ANC work a lot better. I tested the previous model in parallell and couldn't find that they are as good. This with the latest firmware for both the new and the old model. In this case I feel that the Air5 Pro+ excels and gives a lot better noise cancelling feature. There is a lot less noise general noise and the cancellation is great.

I haven't got that feeling at all with the new Air5 Pro+. Is it worth the upgrade if you already have the Air5 Pro? Most probably not, the previous version is great and as long as they work you should be happy with those for now. However, if you don't have the previous version or if you are a tech nerd who wants the latest, you should certainly pick up the Air5 Pro+.

The price is quite a bit higher for the Air5 Pro+ compared to the Air5 Pro, so that could certainly be the deciding point which one you go for. I still recommend the previous version if your economy only allows that, but if you have the extra money, you would be really happy with the Air5 Pro+.
